Yep, always said so myself-veganism and animal rights are about JUSTICE & RESPECT.I cringe when I hear the hugely over-used word compassion!Human slavery wasn't abolished because suddenly white people became so magnanimous & compassionate towards black people-abolition was the only "JUST" and "RIGHT" way forward.

Thanks for the insight Mary... It's good to know that there is often a remapping and always further learning of what we come to believe is or isn't acceptable in our treatment of Others.

With my respect for Others now... I find I'm often going backwards trying to assess how I ever could have done some things that I have: fishing killing, de-clawing a cat and selling a pet bird, as a "thing" all come to mind.

But it is a process requiring lots of honest introspection. And veganism might be great for health, or the environment. But I can declare (here at least) - For me, it's all about the animals and their due justice.

Belated wishes for a Happy World Vegan Day!

I hope you aren't one of those anti-soy people Mary. Soy products and faux meats do wonderful things in terms of convincing people to stop eating animals. Though I no longer care for faux meats myself, a developing love of tofu is easily one of the reasons I went from vegetarian to vegan and stayed there.

nemo

Doc, I would like to know your opinion. Do you agree or disagree with the use of eggs to help develop a vaccine for H1N1?

Mary

Crystal,

I'm not anti-soy and I enjoy tofu several times a week. I'm not a huge fan of super-processed analogs for myself, but I do think they have their place for some people when they're transitioning. And I don't like the taste of most of them, but that's me. Many vegans love them and eat them frequently.

And nemo, I haven't done much research into swine flu vaccination variations, but I doubt anyone's eggs are necessary, and if they are, I'd imagine that human eggs would be more appropriate than the eggs of another species. On principle, though, I am not for using animals and their secretions.
