On Sarah Palin

30palin3large

Sorry. I couldn’t resist.

From today’s New York Times and entitled, "Palin, an Outsider Who Charms."

My husband just said, "Honey, leave the lady alone. When she’s Vice President she’s gonna have you hunted down and killed."

    She hunts moose too.

  2. I call her "Sally Snowshoe – Queen of the Wolf Kill" (also Governor of the only state in the Union who would allow a barbaric event such as the Idiotarod to be run. This says a lot about the citizens of Alaska as well – just as the political and public support for the Yukon Quest says a lot about Yukoners).

What was McCain THINKING??? – and how can he defend this offensive, hard right-wing political neophyte to be "a heartbeat from the presidency?"

    Oh yeah, boycott Alaska!

  3. Its wonderful, right! McCain finally listened to America and chose someone with our values and a record of going after corrupt Republkicans. My only regret, and I say this as simeone who worked on his 2000 campaign, is that Sarah Palin isn't at the top of the ticket.

  4. The only positive things I can think of when I look at her, her values, and her track record, are things that I really shouldn't be stating in public.

Literally; I’m staying away from this one 🙂

The media and the McCain clan is glorifying Palin's animal/meat/hunting hobbies to excess and ridicule. Everything about her is a "caricature" based on what Republicans perceive stereo-type American "values" to be. Very creepy: A "Stepford-gun-toteing-right-to-life-hocky-mom-carnivore-wife".

I detest the idea that she's representing "my sex" in a historic "first". And I dread to morbidity that she will ever represent "my country"!

And, I might add, drape your skin across the other side of her sofa. This woman is sick, and incredibly unqualified to be Vice President. I can’t imagine what McCain could be thinking.

Oh and I hear she's got a bumper sticker on the back of her car that reads "VEGETARIAN: OLD INDIAN WORD FOR 'BAD HUNTER'" .

  9. If John McCain didn't do much research into Sarah Palin's qualifications as his VP, he certainly appears to have 'checked her out' when he introduced her on Friday.

Okay, so we're not suppose to talk about Palin's daughter's preganancy. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/01/palins-17-year-old-daughter-is-pregnant/ oooops!

Still, I am curious on a few details. On the one hand Palin is proud of her 17 year old daughter and her decision to "responsibly" marry the father and have the child. Palin says her daughter will recieve all the support and help from her loving family. BUT – doesn't Palin's anti-choice politics deny another 17 year old girl (or mother-at-risk) her decision NOT to have a baby? Palin's daughter has little "choice" – I can't imagine the pressure of being pregnant at 17 with your right-wing mother's VP candidacy in the balance – As a kid, if ever there was a time you do what you're told this is it.

The second unbelievable tale is that McCain was informed of this nasty little pregnancy prior to picking his running mate. Really? – a first meeting that lasted all of an hour and intimate details of family secrets all came gushing out in a big "reveal"?! Highly doubtful.

I question further still Pali's parenting skills. This photo shows Palin subjecting her young child to the "realities" of Caribou hunting:

Tonight, all eyes will be on Governor Sarah Palin. Let’s make sure the whole nation knows about her awful record on aerial hunting and protecting wildlife.

  14. I did hear that the bikini photo was photoshopped. That current.com segment has some funny stuff. Notice the "kill your food and eat it" material. Can you kill food? When I was 20 and MTV was just a handful of years old, we didn't have all of this. I just hope the young people are paying attention, doing their research, and willing to gravely inconvenience themselves by taking a couple of hours out of their days to vote (I heard a young person talking about what a hassle it was probably going to be and I wanted to scream).

I don't much care if Palin's daughter is pregnant, but one of those tv comedians got it right when he said "imagine what the Republicans would be saying if one of Obama's daughters was a little older and pregnant at 17."

When teenagers of color become pregnant accidentally it's supposed to show the depravity of our culture, and when they make the decision to keep their babies and try to raise them, often without the kind of family support Palin brags about the media calls them "welfare queens."

But enough about that. She's terrible in so many ways, denying global warming has a human influence, and then the ariel shooting of wolves. And her association with secessionists!

Mary, yes on the bikini photo, I figured it was shopped too, but couldn't resist 🙂

Your concern with the younger voters is valid – They need to do their homework on the issues and the candidates – (and with veganism as well)… Unfortunately I think despite all the info at hand there is equal distraction. The gadgets are seductive – Technology enhances access to information. Regrettably it also allows many to "avoid".

And when I see the world like this – the widgets, polls, media-streams, ipods, blue-tooth and "blackberry" (whatever that is…), When I see the lure of the "modern age" – I begin to loose hope that the animals don't stand a chance at all… anyway…

Lyda, you make a good point about how teen mothers "of color" are often wrongly viewed… good 'ol racism rears it's ugly head at every turn. I "squish" it – whenever I can 🙂

And as long as we're in "Alaska Territory": Palin's AERIAL WOLF HUNTING is demonic! It's horribly cruel. And it's totally unnecessary – These "predator" wolves could be "controlled" by non-lethal measures, at no more tax-payer expense than gunning them down! I don't agree with killing them in any way, but I've seen videos of the "shoots" and they're heartbreaking.

I'm not sure what Mr. Obama’s position on killing wolves (or any other wildlife) is. However I do know he is personally responsible for blocking a bill that would have allowed doctors to give medical treatment to babies born alive after botched abortions. He listened to personal testimony from nurses who were only allowed to hold these babies for their short lives and watch them inhumanly suffer and fade away which often takes hours. Obama personally blocked the state bill even after wording was changed be the same as the Federal Bill which passed the US Senate unopposed (Both Hillary & Kerry voted in favor of the bill). I cannot vote for someone who has that little regard for human life. I also cannot imagine that someone who is not concerned with the humane treatment of newborn babies would somehow be concerned with humane treatment of animals.

Here are links to the full congressional testimony of some of these nurses- no spin added.

Hi George… I can certainly understand your concern over "live birth abortions". Here is the transcript from an interview with Mr. Obama voicing his stand on this issue. Below is the link to the video:

From Christian Broadcast News – The Brody File:

Brody: Real quick, the born alive infant protection act. I gotta tell you that's the one thing I get a lot of emails about and it's just not just from Evangelicals, it about Catholics, Protestants, main — they're trying to understand it because there was some literature put out by the National Right to Life Committee. And they're basically saying they felt like you misrepresented your position on that bill.

Obama: Let me clarify this right now.

Brody: Because it's getting a lot of play.

Obama: Well and because they have not been telling the truth. And I hate to say that people are lying, but here's a situation where folks are lying. I have said repeatedly that I would have been completely in, fully in support of the federal bill that everybody supported – which was to say –that you should provide assistance to any infant that was born – even if it was as a consequence of an induced abortion. That was not the bill that was presented at the state level. What that bill also was doing was trying to undermine Roe vs. Wade. By the way, we also had a bill, a law already in place in Illinois that insured life saving treatment was given to infants.

So for people to suggest that I and the Illinois medical society, so Illinois doctors were somehow in favor of withholding life saving support from an infant born alive is ridiculous. It defies commonsense and it defies imagination and for people to keep on pushing this is offensive and it's an example of the kind of politics that we have to get beyond. It's one thing for people to disagree with me about the issue of choice, it's another thing for people to out and out misrepresent my positions repeatedly, even after they know that they're wrong. And that's what's been happening.

Brody: I wanted to give you a chance to clear it up.

    Obama: I appreciate it.

    Brody: Thank you so much.

    Troopergate:
Alaska's Senate Judiciary Committee voted last week to subpoena 13 people, including Todd Palin…

But just hours ago the Republican attorneys filed a lawsuit to stop the investigation.

This is an incident that happened long before Palin was a candidate – I can't believe they can do this (legally).

This is really no surprise… but Palin revised budgeting victims of rape to pay for their own "kits". That's very wrong…

"Under Sarah Palin's administration, Wasilla cut funds that had previously paid for the medical exams and began charging victims or their health insurers the $500 to $1200 fees."
