Protests, Sneakers and Feral Cats, Oh My!
Protests
Santos, of the NYC Animal Rights Group, wrote yesterday to tell me that there will be a protest TONIGHT at Madison Square Garden for the opening night of the rodeo I wrote about yesterday. Here are the details.
Sneakers
I needed new running shoes and have been devoted to the Asics Gel Kayano for years. I know they’re vegetarian, but I wanted a shoe I knew was vegan so I ordered what could be the most atrocious shoe on the market, the Viharrunner, by Stella McCartney for Adidas.
Years ago there was a shoe by Brooks that had a neoprene sock lining, which made it unnecessary to even lace the shoes, and they stopped making it. I’ve been looking for that sock ever since, and here is is, in a vegan shoe that is the lightest one I’ve ever worn. It’s so light (how light is it?) that when the box arrived I thought it was empty.
I received them on Monday so it’s been only four days of running four miles a day and . . . I’m ambivalent. I can’t say either way at this point. I don’t not like them, but I’m used to a fairly cushiony shoe and this is more like the uncushiony shoe. I feel like I’m running barefoot but with heel support. But my feet and legs feel great . . . so far. I’ll keep you posted.
Feral Cats
Project Treadstone continues (waiting for details for the day the RV comes down to spay a couple dozen cats in a day) with two females, both of whom were in heat. The women at the site asked if I could trap Gray Momma, whom they knew was in heat, as if I can target a cat. But guess what? Here she is. How about that tipped ear? Ouch!
And here’s Oreo Girl (my genius name: black on the sides, white in the middle) . . .
And while I’m at it, here’s my latest photo of the magnificent Emily-the-death-machine, FIP-carrier-kitty:
She looks rather annoyed for a spoiled cat, doesn’t she? All that love, affection and attention can be tiresome, I guess.
FIP is rough. I was present for necropsies on a couple of FIP cats once (long and horrible story) and it was pretty bad. I hope your little death machine is doing well and stays well. If I missed her whole story, sorry about that- new to your blog.
I also love feral cats. I don't know why. They don't love me that's for sure 🙂
"the most atrocious shoe on the market"
I kind of like them, actually 😉
Elaine,
What's great about them is people ask me about them (yes, even when I'm running and have earplugs on), and then I get to say that they're vegan and that's initially why I bought them. They're fantastic conversation starters.
can i buy these in the u.k
